Questions we hear most often before starting an ERPNext deployment.

How is ERPNext different from Odoo?
Both are open-source ERP platforms, but they have different strengths. ERPNext (built on Frappe) has no per-user license cost on self-hosted deployments, making it significantly cheaper at scale. It has stronger out-of-box manufacturing and distribution modules. Odoo tends to have a more polished UI and a larger marketplace of third-party apps. We help you evaluate both during discovery based on your industry, team size, and budget constraints.
Should we self-host ERPNext or use Frappe Cloud?
Frappe Cloud is the managed hosting service run by the ERPNext creators — it handles updates, backups, and infrastructure. Self-hosting gives you full control over the stack, better performance for custom configurations, and lower long-term cost at scale. We support both deployment paths. For most growing businesses, we recommend starting on Frappe Cloud for simplicity, then evaluating a self-hosted migration once customization depth increases.
How much customization can we do on ERPNext?
ERPNext is highly customizable. Using Frappe's DocType framework, you can create entirely new data models without touching the core codebase. Client scripts and server scripts handle UI behavior and server-side logic. For deeper changes, we build custom Frappe apps that sit alongside the core installation. This keeps your customizations isolated and easier to maintain across version upgrades.
Who handles ongoing support and version upgrades?
We provide managed support retainers that cover version upgrades, bug resolution, custom module maintenance, user support, and feature enhancements. ERPNext releases regular updates and periodic major versions — we manage the testing and migration so your team doesn't have to. Support is scoped by hours and SLA tier so you have predictable monthly costs and clear response time commitments.
